It is our great pleasure to invite you to this specially coordinated event that combines two international conferences on nanomaterials and devices: the 8th International Vacuum Electron Sources Conference (IVESC 2010) and NANOcarbon 2010, which will be held in the Nanjing Grand Hotel (Nanjing, China) from Oct. 14-16 in 2010.

IVESC 2010 includes numerous sessions on the fundamental of electron emission, cathode technology, and the applications of electron sources in vacuum electronic devices and vacuum microelectronic devices and other novel devices. IVESC provides a unique international forum for the presentation of achievements, breakthroughs and developments in electron source technology since electron sources form the heart of vacuum electron devices.

NANOcarbon 2010 will feature talks by distinguished speakers presenting the latest advances in the field, and contributed papers will also be solicited for poster presentations. Topics covered will include nanomaterial synthesis, processing, characterization, properties and applications. It will provide an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest cutting edge research results in carbon nanotube, graphene and nanowire synthesis, development and applications.

The aims of this symposium are: 1) to establish a forum for the discussion and promotion of the science and applications of nanomaterials, 2) to maintain awareness of the current developments in the field, and 3) to encourage collaborations and networks between researchers in both academia and industry from Europe, Asia and America.

The organizers of IVESC 2010 and NANOcarbon 2010 are excited by the opportunity to combine the two conferences. As a joint conference, a broad range of research topics will be showcased so that a new multilateral research platform will be formed. The conference will also reinforce the commitment of IVESC and NANOcarbon to promote international collaboration and facilitate the open exchange of state-of-the-art and state-of-the-practice research findings.

The conference will consist of invited and contributed papers for oral and poster presentations. All full manuscripts will be peer-reviewed under normal review process. And only recommended for publication by referees will be published in Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Physica Status Solidi a/b, or The Journal of Vacuum Science and Technology B.
