On Aug. 17, Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology indicated that survey on resources of Great Wall of Wei of Shaanxi Province have achieved staggered results. It was found that the great wall of Wei of the Warring States extends for more than 140 kilometers.

The site of great wall of Wei is a key cultural heritage protection unit of the country. The great wall of Wei in Shaanxi Province was constructed by Wei Kingdom to defense attack of Qin Kingdom in the Warring States. As the great wall was located in the west of Wei Kingdom, it is called West Greater Wall of Wei. In the past 2000 years, the great wall of Wei within the territory of Shaanxi was seriously damaged due to natural and human reasons. Protection of the great wall became an urgent task.

It is noted that the team for investigation of great wall resources of Wei in Shaanxi, after on-site investigation in many counties including Weinan, Yan an and Tongchuan counties, found that the great wall of Wei mainly located in Fuxian, Huanglong, Huangling of Yan an, Yiju of Tongchuan, Licheng, Dali and Heyang counties of Weinan City, Hancheng City and Huayin City. The great wall of Wei extends for more than 140 kilometers and is seriously damaged.

The investigation team believed that the great wall of Wei in the south of Huanglong Mountain starts from the bank of Yellow River in the east and is an integrated one with the great walls found in Hualing and Yijun counties. The great wall stretches to the west along south and west of Huanglong Mountain, crosses to Yueluo River to Ziwu Mountain.

Before that, some scholars believed that the great wall of Wei starts from Huayin in the west, crosses Weihe River, stretches to the north along Luohe River and Kongzou River, and stretches east to the west bank of the Yellow River along south of Huanglong Mountain. However, the investigation team didn t find the great wall along the Luohe River.

Yue Lianjian, an expert, indicated that no great wall was found along the Luohe River in the on-site investigation, nor any cultural relics related to the great wall of Wei were found. Binluo only records the boundary of Wei at that time (10 year during the reign of Huiwang of Wei). Many rivers of Luohe River have deep river way, and it is a natural defense barrier.

It is unnecessary to build up the great wall along the river. In the next step, on-site drilling investigation will be conducted. If no evidence for construction of the great wall was found after drilling investigation, it can further prove that there is no great wall along the Luohe River.
