Going to Jingbian and Dingbian counties in Yulin City, Shaanxi Province on the edge of Maowusu Desert in December, the reporter noticed that many farmers are killing pigs and sheet with harvesting pleasures. With the government s efforts to support the rapid development of modern agriculture industry, the once barren and lonely 800-li desert is becoming the second barn of Shaanxi and a golden land for farmers to become rich.

The Three Borders region in Yulin, North Shaanxi has always been a pronoun of poverty and less-developed due to bad weather, indulged wind and sand and barren land. Zhouhe Town is the farthest town in Jingbian County, and is two hours rid to Jingbian County. In the town, the mountains are high, and the gouges are deep.

The living environment is severe. Farmers have wide sowing but meager harvest. According to Ma Hongyu, secretary of the CPC Jingbian County Committee, told the reporter that when I met with residents of Wangzhouhe Town, many villagers indicated that they want to go to surrounding provinces. This stimulated me very much and made me to make a decision to solve the issue to increase income of farmers.

Villages of Dongping Village, Jingbian County recently moved to the new houses in early this year. Cheng Yuanxiang, a villager of the village, talked about the harvest in the year. Since 2008, the government helped us to flat the slope and dig a well. In this year, the production volume of potato exceeded 40,000 kilograms. In addition to income of buckwheat and millet, income of six members of our family exceeded 60,000 yuan.

Village Party Secretary Zhang Liang said that the income per capita of the village exceeded 10,000 yuan by developing plantation industry, breeding industry and labor economy. Villagers moved to new houses uniformly planned, and their living standards were improved. Dongping Village is only one of the examples for Jingbian s development of high-efficient agricultural industry.

Facility agriculture and recycling agriculture of Erdejing Village, Hongdunjie Town were also eye-catching. Farmer Wang Guijun planted 24 mu of corns, straws of corn can feed pigs, while feces of pigs can be used as fertilizer to plant the corns. The agricultural income of Wang Guijun family was close to 80,000 yuan a year.

Ma Hongyu, Standing Committee Member of Yulin CPC Municipal Committee and Secretary of Jingbian County, said that farmers in Jingbian County has promoted the development of modern agriculture by developing potato, vegetable and animal industries since 2007 in accordance with the development planning of one industry for one township (town), and embarked on a new way to increase farmers income. The per capita income of Jingbian had increased from 2,022 yuan in 2006 to 8,000 yuan in 2010, and the number of poverty-stricken population had decreased by 80%.

Since 2007 till now, Yulin City carried out high productivity cultivation activities of five croppers in Yulin City of Sanbian Region on the edge of 800-li Maowusu Desert, with 360,000 mu of demo fields established. A total of 39 national high-productivity records were set. In the 10086-mu high-productivity demo field of corn in five towns and townships of Xuezhuang Township, Dingbian County, the average production volume of corn per mu reached 819 kilograms, an increase of 400 kilograms compared with semi-covered corn field.

The Haihua No.1 peanut high-productivity demo field in Pantang Village, Mazhen Township, Shenmu County reaps 1068.9 kilometers of fresh fruits each mu. After roasting, total weight of the dried fruits reached 508 kilograms, reaching the highest level of average production volume per 1000 mu in the country.

It is noticed that total production volume of grains of Yulin is expected to exceed 1.55 million tons.
