Asian Games Officials Select Six to Ignite Torch

The Guangzhou Asian Games Organsing Committee (GAGOC) announced on September 24 its torch lighting selection contest at Guangdong TV Station where 28 young ladies from across the country vied for six berths who are eligible to receive trainings ahead of the Games and become the final candidates to perform the flame-lighting ceremony at the 16th Asian Games.

Contestants took part in costume and gesture presentation and fielded questions about the Asian Games from an evaluation panel. Six candidates were selected including Wei Xueyang from Hubei Province; Tang Lu from Jilin Province; Chen Xi from Guangdong Province; Yang Chan from Shanghai; Kang Chenchen from Yunan Province and Chu Xiumanfrom Shanxi Province.

The event was organised by the Torch Relay operation team under the GAGOC, All-China Students Federation, Guangdong Provincial Committee of Communist Youth League of China and Students Federation of Guangdong Provcince.

The six candidates will attend trainings courses in Beijing, after which finalists will be selected to ignite the Asian Games flame at the lighting ceremony for the 16th Asian Games in November.
