The first Lantern Festival of Hongmei Township kicks off

The first Lantern Festival of Hongmei Township opened on Friday (Feb.26) in Hongmei Culture & Sports Square. The festival will last last for the duration of the weekend to Sunday (Feb.28).

The most attractive lantern displayed is the No.1 Lantern in Lingnan (South China), which is also called the King of Lanterns . It is the largest one among the 12 lantern groups on display. It is 10m high, 8m wide and 8m deep.

The square will be decorated by exactly 2,010 lanterns to show best wishes for the year of 2010. Through the three days of the festival, lantern-makers will show their techniques on site. Audience interested in making lanterns can learn from the masters and experience the process of how to make lantern themselves.
