In a report Dongguan government submitted to the Guangdong Province before the Spring Festival, it is pointed out that the Dongguan Government is planning to raise the minimum wage to about 1000 yuan so as to attract the labor force that is needed to boost the transformation and upgrading of enterprises. Currently, the minimum wage is set 770 yuan per month.

According to data released by Dongguan Human Resources Bureau, Dongguan has a demand for approximately 350,000 workers, 80% of which are general workers. The city is experiencing a large labor supply gap of nearly 200, 000 workers.

From late February to the end of March, the city's Employment Service Department will organize a series of recruitment activities in Guangdong Province so as to alleviate the labor shortage in Dongguan.

Enterprises will be invited to the four biggest labor force-exporting cities in Guangdong such as Yunfu, Shaoguan, Zhanjiang and Maoming to join in the job fairs. Over 30 job fairs will also be held in each town and district in Dongguan.

However, executives from the local labor market point out that the peak of returning migrants workers in will be in March. "Actually it is only a periodical labor shortage as the factory orders increase while workers have not returned yet from the Spring Festival holiday, " said an executive from Zhitong Labor Market.
