Two sewage treatment plants in Dongguan have been warned by provincial environmental protection watchdog for getting "red cards" in a recent environmentally friendly credit rating.

Xiagongtan Sewage Treatment Plant and Zhutang Sewage Treatment Plant, both in Fenggang Township of Dongguan, were issued "red cards" by the provincial environmental protection watchdog on April 27, in an environmentally friendly credit rating which is based on their polluting behaviors during 2009.

E.coli in the two plants' treatment process had been found exceeding the standard set by the watchdog during a previous inspection.

For their punishments, the two plants will face suspending of new loans from banks, and are required pay back money the banks have shelled out.
