Dongguan held a torch relay rehearsal today (September 29) for the coming 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.

Dongguan held a torch relay rehearsal today (September 29) for the coming 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. Dongguan is the third stop in Guangdong Province for Asian Games flame which is scheduled to travel through the city on October 14.

The rehearsal started at 8:30 am at Marine War Museum in Humen Township of Dongguan. After a few stops at some famous scenic spots like Weiyuan Barbette Field and Humen Bridge, the torch arrived in Dongguan's downtown area at 9:20 am. The torch went on its relay in Dongguan downtown under the protection of over 1000 police who were deployed along the road sides, and ended at Dongguan Central Square at 10:45 am. A continuing program of traffic control measures was implemented to improve traffic flows from 9:00 am to 11:00 am for the roads where the torch passed by.

This torch relay route represents the vivid history of Dongguan "from the past to the present modern manufacturing city", according to Dongguan Sports Bureau.

Eighty bearers will carry the torch when the flame travels in Dongguan on October 14. Among them, forty have been recommended by the 2010 Asian Games Organizing Committee, and the other forty will be selected by the Dongguan Government.

The 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games will begin on November 12 this year in Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong Province, and three co-host cities: Dongguan, Foshan and Shanwei. Dongguan will host the 2010 Asian Games weightlifting event from November 13 to November 19. Approximately 300 athletes from 30 countries will take part the weightlifting event in Dongguan when the games are on.
