The Delegation of Asian Media Research Center Attended China-US City Brand Summit, USA

From May 23rd to May 29th, Asian Media Research Center of Communication University of China (CUC) led an 8-person delegation, which included directors of local cities external propaganda departments, principals of TV and film company for city image propaganda, Dean of International Institute for Urban Development, Beijing (IUD), etc., to attend China-US City Brand Summit,, in Michigan State University (MSU), USA, to deliberate deeply and comprehensively on the topic of city brand marketing.

MSU specially invited Mark Lantz, President of the advertising company which helped Michigan State to promote its city traveling brand, made a speech entitled Pure Michigan. He dwelled on the serial activities from exploitation, design to promotion of city brand, and the four-year promotion had been a substantive boost to tourism in Michigan State. At a later time, Jo Bourjaily, Principal in the AD company in charge of image promotion for Michigan State Merchants and Development Bureau, delivered a lecture entitled Prevailing Permanently. For the sake of attracting foreign investment better, combined favorably endowed geographical environment and abundant technical human resources of Michigan State Michigan State Merchants and Development Bureau formulated a city image promotion plan as Prevailing Permanently, which had played a positive role in attracting trade and investment during the four years.
Associate Professor Wen Chunying, Deputy Director of Asian Media Research Center, gave a talk entitled Analysis on City Ads Delivery in CCTV, China (2007-2009), concluding delivery strategies and the current problems of propaganda film for city image. Vice GM Wang Dayong of Zonbo Media, taking film Season of Good Rain for instance, introduced a successful case for the combination of film and city marketing, and won acclaim unanimously from the delegates to the conference. Around the subject of construction and marketing of city brand, other delegates illustrated the accumulated experiences and problems in concrete tasks.

Head of the delegation Hu Zhifeng, also Director of Academic Research Department of Liberal Arts, exchanged views and reached a preliminary agreement with Dean of College of Communication, MSU, on the two universities cooperation in the future. The two sides considered that the present China-US City Brand Summit had a deep and comprehensive understanding of city brand marketing and promotion in China and USA, which was a great platform for mutual complementarities and information exchange between China-US cities. On this platform, they could develop more forms of cooperation and communication in future. In order to advance further development of this platform, the two sides decided that Asian Media Research Center, CUC and College of Communication, MSU will take turns at sponsoring the Summit each year, to boost communication and research of China-US city brand marketing and promotion.
After the meeting, the delegation paid a visit to government officials of Michigan State and principals of Merchants Bureau, and the two parties had a deep discussion about relevant issues of city image propaganda. The delegation visited the marketing department of sports brand in Lansing, state capital of Michigan State, and exchanged experiences of brand marketing for urban sports activities.
The members of the delegation included: Prof. Hu Zhifeng, Director of Academic Research Department of Liberal Arts; Prof. Lian Mingyu, Dean of IUD; Deputy Director Wang Xuntao of Publicity Department, CPC Shijiazhuang Committee; Deputy Director Liu Xujia of Publicity Department, CPC Changsha Committee; Director Liu Li of Information Office of Nanchang Municipal Government; Associate Prof. Wen Chunying, Deputy Director of Asian Media Research Center, CUC; Liu Xinxin; and Vice GM Wang Dayong of Zonbo Media.
