PKU Held Forum to Commemorate 30th Anniversary of Reform and Opening Up

Peking University, Beijing, Dec 26th, 2008: The forum for the 30th anniversary of Reform and Opening Up was held in Yingjie Exchange Center on December 24^th. Min Weifang, Party Secretary of Peking University, President Zhou Qifeng, as well as all the members of PKU leadership team presented the forum chaired by Zhang Qifeng. More than 300 people, including representatives of old leaders, members of party committee, members of the Commission for Discipline Inspection and the grass-roots party of every department, administrative managers of every department, managers of all functional departments and directly attached units, academicians, senior professors, middle-aged and young teachers, representatives of democratic parties, retired veteran cadres and representatives of the Labor Union and Teachers Union, representatives of the high-tech industries and representatives of the teachers and students attended the meeting.

At the forum, representatives of Division of Humanities and Social Sciences, Division of Information and Engineering, Medicine Department and Communist Youth League made their statements, respectively. Honorary Dean of Guanghua School of Management, well-known economist Professor Li Yining made an in-depth analysis of the great process that the party and state adhered to the road of sustainable development, continuously explored new measures to deepen reform and opening up and converted the government functions to taking independent innovation in the past 30 years of reform and opening up.

Academician Yang Fuqing, director of the Software and Microelectronics Institute of PKU, Ke Yang, executive vice president of PKU and Han Liu, Communist Youth League secretary of PKU delivered their speeches on the development of software projects in PKU, the development of medical field in China and the growth of PKU youths in the 30 years.

Min Weifang addressed on behalf of the party and administration of PKU that we should conscientiously study and implement the contents of the important speech that Party General Secretary Hu Jintao delivered to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the convening of the Third Plenary Session of the General Assembly, in-depth understand and realize the great significance, the glorious achievements, successful experiences and forward direction of the reform and opening up, review and sum up the struggle course and practice experience of PKU during the 30 years and further promote the process of creating PKU to be a world-class university.

In the concluding remarks, Zhou Qifeng asked all units and all the teachers and students in PKU to carefully study the contents of the important speech that Party General Secretary Hu Jintao delivered to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the convening of the Third Plenary Session of the General Assembly, comprehensively implement the working deployment of the Party committee and administration of PKU, carry out an in-depth study of the scientific concept of development and work hard to constantly push forward the reform and opening-up and make PKU a world-class university.
