Cooperation Between PKU School of Stomatology and Rochester

Peking University, Oct. 3, 2010: On Sept. 27, 2010, the signing ceremony of memorandum of understanding (MOU) on academic cooperation between Peking University School of Stomatology (Hospital of Stomatology) and Eastman Institute for Oral Health of the University of Rochester was held in the school. Prof. Cyril Meyerowitz, Dean of Eastman Institute for Oral Health, together with Associate Professor Ren Yanfang, Vice Director of Dental Multipurpose Therapy, attended the ceremony.

Prof. Xu Tao, President of PKU Hospital of Stomatology (School of Stomatology) and Prof. Cyril Meyerowitz addressed the conference. Both sides agreed that signing MOU is a remarkable starting point while further efforts should be put on substantial exchange and cooperation between the two sides and more significance should be added to it. The two parties reached unanimous agreement that they should, on the basis of mutual benefit, enhance the understanding, strengthen the cooperation, and further promote their common development in fields such as personnel exchanges and shared information.

Prof. Cyril Meyerowitz and Associate Professor Ren Yanfang highly appreciated the clinic circumstances and hardware facilities after visiting the medical building and newly-built research center in PKU School of Stomatology.

Cooperation Between PKU School of Stomatology and Rochester

On the afternoon of Sept. 30, experts from Eastman Institute for Oral Health gave a distance-teaching class to students receiving further education in Rochester. A dozen of former students from all over the world attended this lecture. Prof. Cyril Meyerowitz made a speech entitled Eastman Institute for Oral Health and Community-based Oral Health Research. Meanwhile, one of the alumni, Dr. Karen Novak, delivered his report entitled Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, Periodontitis and Negative Maternal/Fetal Outcomes: is there a link? Directors, professors, scholars, and postgraduate students in the hospital also attended this lecture.

After the lecture, Prof. Cyril Meyerowitz and Dr. Karen Novak received the Mercy and Charity Award granted by Peking University School of Stomatology.
