04th May (morning), deputy district mayor Mao Gui Fen met Mr. V. James Marini the Superintendent of Schools of Newtown Public Schools of Greater Boston Metropolitan Area (USA), Deputy Superintendent Mr. Paul Stein, Newton North High School Principal Mdm. Jennifer Price and Newton South High School Principal Joel Stembridge. Deputy district mayor Mao gave the visiting guests an introduction of Dongcheng District s educational developments, its educational development strategies and the status of its foreign educational exchanges and cooperation, affirming the achievements resulted from 30 years of exchange programs between Beijing Jingshan School and Newtown Public Schools (Boston, USA), and the need to engage in various levels of exchanges and cooperation. The respective authorities of Dongcheng District Municipal Commission of Education, Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Goverment of Beijing Municipality (Dongcheng District) and Beijing Jingshan School were also present at the meeting.
Under the invitation of Beijing Jingshan School, the delegation from Newtown Public Schools attended Beijing Jingshan School s 50th anniversary celebration. Friendly relationship between Beijing Jingshan School and the Newtown Public Schools was established in 1979. For more than thirty years, Sino-US joint efforts have yielded great achievements through friendly exchanges. The Chinese Culture Promotion Program put up by teachers and students of Beijing Jingshan School, was deemed a perfect cultural showcase and was given good reviews by the Boston mayor, dean and all schools. Former United States Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley had commended the exchanges between the two sides.
