President Xiao attends the 5th APAIE education conference and Visits QUT

President Xiao is invited to attend the Asia Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) Conference held in Brisbane Australia from April 14 to 16 2010. More than 850 delegates from 55 countries are attending APAIE, hosted by Griffith University at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. Former Australian Prime Minister, The Honourable Bob Hawke AC officially opened the conference.

The theme of the conference is Educating for Extremes: Educating for global challenges in a rapidly changing world.
Mr Hawke said the conference and its theme brought together the three passions of his life: education; the Asia Pacific region; and the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
Some hot topics at the conference have been: student employment, student security; student engagement and social inclusion; the GFC and its affect on higher education; the revolution in communication a shift towards social media; and preparing graduates for an uncertain future.

President Xiao participated in the President s Round Table and Student Employment sessions,and he delivered a presentation with the topic of Employment of Chinese College Graduates in Financial Crisis. Mr. Xiao s presentation analyses the current situation of college graduates employment in financial crisis and suggests that its crux exists as follows: 1.

structure imbalance, 2. graduate quality, and 3. insufficient demand for employment in financial crisis. He also puts forward some constructive procedures and experiences of Southwest University of Science and Technology (SWUST) has succeeded in solving the problem.


The key goals of APAIE is to bring together international educators active in Asia Pacific higher education and other relevant organizations to promote communication, networking and professional development.

Apr. 16th President Xiao was invited to visit Queensland University of Technology (QUT) for linking partnership institutions. Mr. Scott Sheppard, the deputy vice chancellor of QUT, welcomed the President Xiao s delegation. Both sides introduced the university s history, education strengths, key research areas, and shared ideas on potential collaboration programs in joint education program, teacher/scholar visiting, and teacher applying for Ph. D program. President Xiao signed the International Cooperation Agreement with the Deputy Vice Chancellor Scott Sheppard of QUT. Both agreed to promote our communication and collaboration based on the signing of Partner University.
