University President Meets Australian Consul-General

On January 11 2011, University President Professor Chen Xin met on University City Campus with a four-member delegation headed by Mr. Grant Dooley, the Australian consul-general in Guangzhou. Mr. Grant Dooley and his Australian delegation came to visit the University s Cricket Stadium.
Professor Chen briefed the guests on the construction of the University s Cricket Stadium and the usage of the Stadium in Guangzhou Asian Games 2010. He said that Guangdong Province and the New South Wales Australia had more than three decades of friendly relationship while GDUT had established academic cooperation with some Australian universities. GDUT was willing to cooperate with Australian Consulate General and Australian Football League in making full use of the Stadium in more cricket games and professional cricket training. President Chen also hoped that the cooperation could help promote the cultural and academic exchanges between GDUT and Australian universities.
Mr. Grant Dooley thanked Professor Chen for the warm reception. He said that as China s only cricket stadium of international level, GDUT Cricket Stadium impressed them with all the advanced facilities. He introduced that Australia football was one of the most popular sports in Australia which originated from cricket games and had the same requirements for stadiums. There were Australian football teams in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Macau and Hong Kong, holding competitions regularly. Australian Government and Australian Football League hoped to cooperate with GDUT to further popularize Australian football game in China. At the same time, Mr. Grant Dooley also expressed his willingness to cooperate with GDUT in educational, cultural and scientific areas and provided possible assistance.
