THE 5TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CHINESE AND EAST-ASIAN LEARNERS HELD AT SDUST

The 5th International Conference on Chinese and East-Asian Learners was held at SDUST from October 17 to 18. Attending the conference were over 100 participants from domestic and foreign higher learning institutions including University of Portsmouth, UK, Waseda University, Japan, Hong Kong Institute of Education, Ocean University of China, Petroleum University of China, Shandong University of Agriculture, Qingdao University of Agriculture, Shandong University of Technology, Qingdao University, Qingdao University of Technology, etc.
Prof. Jin Fengxiang, Vice-President of SDUST, extended his warm welcome to the participants on the opening ceremony, saying that East-Asian countries are playing more important roles on world arena in the current trend of globalization, and the conference, with its focus on learning characteristics and learner study, would enhance foreign language teaching and learning in the region.
Among the key-note speakers were Tricia Coverdale-Jones, Lixian Jin, Martin Cortazzi, Zhang Delu, Pamela Collier and Michael Collier. And participants made presentations on issues such as learning autonomy strategies, contrastive features of Chinese vs foreign learners, CAI, cross-cultural communications, etc.
More than 140 *****s were collected and 108 were presented at the conference.
