Mr. President Invites You to Attend the Lecture ---Professor Zhou Xiaozheng Talked about Hot Topics in China

On the evening of May 7, the 5th Themed Event of Mr. President Invites You to Attend the Lecture was held at the conference hall of the Laboratory Building. Professor Zhou Xiaozheng, a schoolfellow of CNU of 1977 and a renowned sociologist, gave a lecture on hot-topics in China from 2008-2009. The lecture was presided over by Guo Ling, assistant to president and a graduate student of College of College of Political Science and Law.
Born in Beijing in 1947, Professor Zhou Xiaozheng is a renowned sociologist in China. He is the head of the Institute of Law and Sociology of Renmin University of China, author of national resource report, supervisor of research projects under State Natural Science Foundation, and a guest commentator of CCTV. His main research areas include population, environment, resources and sustainable development. Professor Zhou participated in a lot of social works. He is the guest of various TV programs and talk shows, such as Today s Focus of the International Channel of CCTV and News Review of the Comprehensive News Channel of CPBS. He is also the consultant and guest commentator for many programs of local TV stations.
Started from the social hierarchy and population flow, Professor Zhou mainly talked about some hot topics in Chinese society in recent years. Combining specific examples from both China and foreign countries, and theories with social realities, Professor Zhou made a profound analysis on various topics vividly and humorously, including the current situation of education in China, the May 12 Earthquake in Wenchuan of Sichuan Province, 2008 Beijing Olympics, fluctuations of China s stock market in recent years, and other hot topics about population, environment and sustainable development, etc. Just as Professor Zhou said, The purpose of looking backward is for better moving forward", audience's vision and knowledge have been greatly expanded by Professor Zhou s detailed analysis on various social problems. With a warm atmosphere at the conference hall, the lecture was very popular among the students. All seats were occupied. Some students had to stand on the corridors, but they still listened attentively to Professor Zhou s excellent speech.
