University s Research & Development of Lithium Battery Separator Membrane Breaks Foreign Monopoly

Shenzhen Senior Technology Material Co., LTD held the first phase project start-up ceremony of South China Power Lithium Battery Manufacturing Base as an important content in the 12th China Hi-tech Fair on October 18th. The National Development and Reform Commission, Shenzhen leaders at various levels and the representatives from the major domestic and foreign power battery professional manufacturers attended the opening ceremony. The Executive Vice-president Prof. Li Guangxian of Sichuan University and faculty members from the University s Research Office, Polymer Research Institute and State Key Laboratory of Polymer Materials Engineering took part in the ceremony.

The Lithium battery membrane which has been long monopolized by two foreign companies is the crucial material for the development of our new energy industry. With our research advantages in polymer materials processing, the research team, led by Prof. Xiang Ming from Polymer Research Institute and the State Key Laboratory of Polymer Materials Engineering of China (Sichuan University), cooperated with Shenzhen Senior Technology Material Co., LTD and started in developing Lithium battery membrane at the end of 2007. They jointly undertook the State 863 project Industrialization of high Li-ion motive battery security composite membrane and made significant breakthrough in the research and manufacturing of lithium battery membrane.

In the process of power lithium battery industrialization, our university has provided crucial technologies such as lithium battery membrane manufacturing technology, equipment design and formula, etc., which leads to a core competitivity of proprietary technology and process. The product technical indicators can rival imported products, and fill the domestic blank and also break the foreign market monopoly.

The production of the first phase project of South China Power Lithium Battery Manufacturing Base of Shenzhen Senior Technology Material Co., LTD attributes to the respective advantages and the close Cooperation of Sichuan University and Shenzhen Senior Technology Material Co., LTD. It will strongly promote China's new energy and new material industry.
