On the afternoon of April 2, the 33rd Student's Congress of the University was held at the Gymnasium on North Campus. Vice presidents ZHANG Zhengang and PENG Shuolong, WU Jialiang, executive chairman of Provincial Student Federation, together with personnel of relevant departments and 382 student representatives, attended the conference.
The Congress examined and approved the work report of "Intensifying Service Functions, Upholding Scientific Development, and Striving for the Construction of A High-leveled Research University" made by the 32nd Student Union (SU) Committee. The Congress also elected the 33rd SU Committee and approved issues including "Trial Procedures for the Term System of SCUT Student's Congress Representatives", SU Regulations Amendment, the 33rd Student's Congress Proposal Report, etc. Advanced individuals and collectives of SU during the annual work were honored at the Congress.
It is considered as a bold innovation that the Congress has approved "Trial Procedures for the Term System of SCUT Student's Congress Representatives" and elected 392 student representatives by democratic election, following the example of NPC's system. SCUT turned out to be the first to carry out the "Trial Procedures for the Term System of Representatives" among national universities.
The elected representatives have put forward over 3,000 proposals, most of which have been answered by relevant departments. Beside, the Congress launched the activity of "One Advice for the scientific development of SCUT" and has received 186 representative advices, among which 66 excellent ones were compiled as a gift from the Congress to the University.
