On the morning of Sept. 7, SCUT held an opening ceremony for Grade 2009 fresh students respectively on North Campus and South Campus. Over 6,300 undergraduates and over 4,000 postgraduates were admitted this year.
On the ceremony, President LI Yuanyuan extended his warmest welcome and congratulations to the freshmen on behalf of the university. He introduced the general situation of SCUT, including her development history, achievements of the scientific research, and talent cultivation, etc. He also encouraged the freshmen to enjoy the honors of the university as well as to shoulder the responsibilities of its construction.
President Li hoped that the fresh students stand high and aim far, study hard and improve their capacity, make practical use of knowledge and strive for the prosperity of our country.
Vice president QIU Xueqing announced the decisions to award the authors and supervisors of the 2008 excellent Ph. D. dissertations and some excellent undergraduate freshmen. Dr. LIU Chuanfu, winner of Nomination Award of 2008 national excellent Ph. D. dissertations, and other prize winners received the prizes on the stage.
WANG Yihan from the School of Business Administration made a speech as a fresh postgraduate representative. Two teacher representatives, Prof. JIANG Huanfeng, from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and Prof. LIU Jianbo from the School of Foreign Languages, also delivered speeches to express their congratulations and hopes to the freshmen.
On the ceremony, postgraduate students also made the pledge to prevent academic corruption and to abide by academic ethics.
