The patent index of SCUT ranks the top seven
On June 22, the Science and Technology Development Center of the Ministry of Education unveiled on its website the authorized patent number, efficient patent number in 2008, and the authorization total of domestic 100 colleges and universities. According to the statistics from "Review of Intellectual Property in universities of China in 2008" edited by the Center, the valid patent number of SCUT by the end of 2008 is 857, ranking 5th. The University has 338 authorized patents in 2008, ranking 7th. From 1985 to 2007, its patent application total reaches 2,526 with a 7th ranking, and the authorization total 1,622 with a 5th ranking.
Different from the previous patent index presented by the Center, the yearly application index has been substituted by the valid patent number since the latter reflects more directly the patent quality, innovation ability and protection level of universities. And the statistic index could probably become the basic mode as far as patents statistics are concerned.
