On the afternoon of May 8, SCUT signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement with TCL Corporation in Shenzhen.
According to the agreement, cooperation between the two parties will be promoted in fields of strategic development, research base construction, personnel training, technical innovation and industrial cooperation. The specific cooperation includes: the two parties are to make joint efforts in technological breakthrough and base construction; innovative classes, focusing on such subjects as information engineering, information display and photoelectric technology, are to be established; SCUT is to provide TCL with human capital on management and technology, and establish "Training Base for Qualified Engineers"; TCL Corporation is to offer scholarships and subsidies to excellent SCUT students.
It is reported that alumnus LI Dongsheng graduated from Department of Radio Technology, SCUT, in 1982, and has been the chairman and CEO of TCL Corporation since 1993. He has been twice awarded CCTV Economic Person of the Year and chosen as 2009 Business Leaders of the Decade. In 2009, TCL Corporation was in the sixth place of global LCD-TV shipments and ranked top in China color TV shipment. With a brand value of 41.7 billion, TCL Corporation remains to be the first brand of color TV in China.
