On the morning of April 14, the 7.1-magnitude quake struck Yushu, Qinghai Province. The devastating quake has drawn great concern of the Chinese people. SCUT took a swift action in calling on the teachers and students to donate for the quake-hit area. At 3 pm. of April 16, a donation box was placed before Building 2, all the teachers and students generously donated to help the people of Yushu, and the school leaders, LI Yuanyuan, DU Xiaoming, PENG Xinyi, Lv Tingxiu, LIU Qijin, and ZHANG Xichun took the lead in making a donation. Meanwhile, another donation activity was held before B2 on south campus. By the time this news was dispatched, SCUT had raised nearly 100 thousand yuan in donation.
President LI Yuanyuan pointed out that great concern had been drawn by the devastating quake area; we should learn about the needs of students in quake-hit region when making donation and spare no effects in providing donation as well as education, as long as it was needed, for the quake victims.
WANG Yongqiang, a 2008-grade student of School of Electric Power, told the journalist that our donation might be just a drop in the bucket, but it conveyed our sincere concern, and our hearts went to the quake victims.
