From Nov. 16 to 19, the first Formula SAE of China (FSAE), hosted by Society of Automotive Engineers of China (SAE-China), was held at Shanghai F1 circuit. In the competition, South China University of Technology (SCUT), the only representative of Guangdong higher education institutions, won second place with a score of 838.

59 after a 4-day competition. Moreover, SCUT fleet won another 8 awards, they are, Distinguished Engineering Award, First Prize of Fuel Economy, First Prize of HV Obstacle avoiding, First Prize of Marketing Report, China FAW Comprehensive Award of the Year, Best Manufacturing Quality, Best Publicity Award and MG Award.

This competition has set up contents like technical inspection, static projects (manufacturing cost, marketing report and car design), and dynamic projects (drag racing, slaloming, HV obstacle avoiding, endurance test and economy test), involving various branches of knowledge such as organizational management, marketing management, logistic transportation and motor racing etc.

With each team in the competition running the operation as real fleets, SCUT fleet triumphed by making steady effort on improving comprehensive abilities with respect to design, manufacture, cost control, business marketing, communication and coordination.

It is learned that FSAE, hosted by SAE-China together with other cooperative units, is a new competition on basis of combination of China's actual situation and experience from USA and German. The first FSAE has tempted 20 national higher education institutions, including Tsinghua University, Tongji University, Jilin University, Tianjin University and Beijing Institute of Technology.
