Recently, the Ministry of Education has announced the winners of the Excellent Achievement Prize for 2010 Higher Education Scientific Research (HESR). The winning projects amount to 296, consisting of 115 First Prize and 181 Second Prize. 7 projects from SCUT are awarded prizes: 2 for the First Prize (1 as host ) and 5 for the Second Prize (4 as host), the number of which is the highest in the past 5 years.

The mechanism of mineralization & biological response of the hard tissue restorative materials for bionic functionalization, which is accomplished by the research group headed by Prof. WANG Yingjun, the director of National Engineering Research Center for Tissue Functional Reconstruction, was awarded the First Prize of the Excellent Achievement Prize for 2010 HESR. The project is a breakthrough in an original sense and a world leading research achievement, making great contributions to the development of the new materials for the third-generation controllable mediated cells.

Also, the study of the mechanism of mass transfer and the process for VOC & humidity control in built environment, the project participated in by Prof. ZHANG Lizhi from School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, was awarded the First Prize.
