On May 14, Workshop on Plankton and Water Environment was held at Jinan University, organized by the College of Life Science and Technology. Prof. Ye Qin, vice president of JNU attended the opening ceremony and gave a welcome speech.

Dr. Kevin G. Sellner, Executive Director of Chesapeake Research Consortium and Executive Secretary of the Chesapeake Bay Program Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee, Dr. Herin J. Dumont from State University of Ghent, Belgium and former editor-in-chief of Hydrobiologia, Dr. Christopher J. Gobler, Associate Professor, School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, Director of Academic Programs, Southampton campus, Stony Brook University, Yingzhong TANG from Stony Brook University and Dr. Qin Qiwei from South Sea Marine Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Winner of National Outstanding Youth Foundation attended the meeting and gave keynote speech. The meeting also invited 2 Ph.D. candidates to gave keynote speeches.

The workshop mainly focused on topics including algae, plankton and water environment. It will strengthen the construction of the national key discipline hydrobiology at Jinan University and promote the influence of the marine environment and freshwater ecology studies of JNU.

Mr. Li Lijia, Deputy Director of the Internatinal Affairs Office, staff from Office of Science and Technology were also present at the opening ceremony. Prof. Yang Yufeng, Vice Dean of the College presided the workshop.
