I announce that the training camp for the registered student journalist of the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games is opened officially. With the begin speech of Gu Shiyang, Deputy Secretary-General of the Guangzhou Municipal Government and Deputy Secretary-General of Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee, college student journalists from SYSU, Henan University and other 3 universities respectively stand for five teams, A Xiang, A He, A Ru, A Yi and Le Yangyang, and they handed the team flag from Gu Shiyang, Chen Xiaofeng, Chen Chunsheng, Xu Wenxin and Liu Gangting.

Morning of 13th, the opening ceremony for the training camp was held in Swasey Hall of SYSU. 100 student journalists from universities of 29 provinces all over China would take part in the events of training, researching and interviewing. They would compete for 50 quotas for registered student journalists for the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, by individual business, shows of school media and practical performance. These 100 student journalists had been awarded as campus propaganda ambassador for Guangzhou Asian Games. They would do propaganda, Asian Games transmission, broadcasting spirit of Asian Games and philosophy of Asian Games in their respective university after the training.
Gu Shiyang, Deputy Secretary-General of Guangzhou Municipal Government and Deputy-secretary General of Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee, Chen Xiaofeng, Deputy-secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee of Guangdong Province, Xu Wenxin, Director of China Youth Daily, Liu Gangting, Deputy-general Manager of Guangzhou Branch of China Mobile, Chen Chunsheng, Vice-president of SYSU and others had been present the ceremony. Wan Qingliang, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province and Mayor of Guangzhou City had sent congratulatory message, encouraging student journalists to observe with eyes, to perspective with mind, to think with brains, and to practice with hands. Guangzhou as the host city of 2010 16th Asian Games will take a new attitude facing friends from the Asian countries.

Vice President Chen Chunsheng noted that, following the heels of Beijing Olympic Games and Shanghai Expo, the Guangzhou Asian Games is another international event to be held in China. Selected and trained student reporters participation in the promotion of the Guangzhou Asian Games would attracted the attention of young people, especially the university students, and make them participate in the Games. Students who participated in the training camp were selected nationwide through the strict selection process. Chen Chunsheng hoped that they would cherish the precious learning and exchange opportunity, know more about the Asian Games and Guangzhou, learn more and get prepared in the promotion of the Guangzhou Asian Games. He also hoped that in a beautifully landscaped environment filled with SYSU s long-standing academic tradition and rich cultural heritage, this will be a fulfilled and happy experience for the students in the training camp.

Gu Shiyang pointed out that, young students involvement in the promotion of Guangzhou Asian Games is not only an extension of the culture and the Asian Games, but also the sublimation of the spirit of the Asian Games. He nicely called every student reporter who participated in the training camp as the promotion ambassador of Guangzhou Asian Games. He hoped that the student reporters would express, fulfill and develop themselves in the Guangzhou Asian Games, and use their own way to communicate the knowledge, philosophy and spirit of the Games. Deputy Secretary Chen Xiaofeng noted that, young people are the backbone of sports activity, and the most powerful inheritors of sports spirit, and university is the place with so many young people and most thought-provoking insights. He hoped that, Asian Games University Communication Ambassadors would draw the attention from the young people, especially university students, and encourage them to get involved in the Asian Games.

Xu Wenxin, president of China Youth Daily, introduced the arrangement and training content of the training camp, preparation of news coverage of the Guangzhou Asian Games, and the development of Guangzhou. University media journalists would receive training for their coverage of sports news and other information related to the Asian Games, and visit the stadiums of the Asian Games and the principal news center of the Games. In order to enhance their experience in the training camps, 100 university student journalists would be divided into five groups, participating in the news production exchange and news writing, simulating the running of Asian Games University News Media Corporation , and responsible for the production of Youth Asian Games newspaper, network, TV station, and mobile phone newspaper. In doing so, they would have a better grasp of news production in the media industry, and try to integrate media of different forms.

At the opening ceremony, Chen Wenzhe, leader of student journalists group of Sun Yat-sen University Newspaper and executive editor in chief of Sun Yat-sen University Students for the South campus, delivered University Students Declaration to Serve for the Asian Games , advocating students from all colleges and universities nationwide to spread the Asian Games Spirit of Unity, Friendship and Progress and enhance senses of national honor and confidence. He also called on all the student journalists to imprint the memory of the Guangzhou Asian Games at every corner of China s campuses by unique humanistic perspective, wide global horizon and grand historic contemplation. After the opening ceremony, Zeng Weiyu, vice director of propaganda department of the Asian Games Organizing Committee, gave a topic lecture on Let the world hear the voice of Guangzhou and introduced Guangzhou city and the preparation works for Asian Games to the student journalists.

Undergoing a strict procedure of recommendation, joint signing online and evaluation, the university student journalists, who joined in the training camp, were finally selected, with 1081 university student journalists chosen from over 300 universities of 29 provinces. In the process of selection, more than 400 people, including directors of propaganda departments, secretaries of league committees of higher education institutes, sports champions, communication scholars as well as celebrities, wrote recommendation letters for the student journalists. During the 10 days of online signing, about 100,000 university students publicized their blogs or diaries in support of the candidates. And it is estimated that there are at lease 5000,000 people getting known about the logo of Guangzhou Asian Games in this way.
Selection Activity of registered university student journalists for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games , authorized by the 16th Asian Games Organizing Committee, is a grand campus selection and dissemination activity, jointly hosted by the propaganda department of the Asian Games Organizing Committee & China Youth Agency and undertaken by China Higher Education Institutes Media Union & Sun Yat-sen University. The 50 university student journalists brought out by the selection will pack the match spots, interviewing together with journalists of major media and news agencies home and abroad. It will be the first time for Chinese university student journalists to have enhanced involvement in the publicity work of major sports events. And it will also be the first appearance of the figure of university student journalists in the 60 years history of the Asian Games.
