New Campus of Attached Middle School Completed

On April 8, a new campus of the Middle School attached to HUST Optics Valley No.1 Middle School is completed and comes into service. It is located to the east of the Yujia Mountain nearby the East Lake. From now on students from Optics Valley area will have a better alternative to pursue their education.


The new school has been jointly built by the East Lake Development Zone and HUST since 2006. It is 106,720 square meters in area. The building area of the first phase is 36,184 square meters. There are 26 senior high school classes, 24 junior middle school classes and more than 2,500 students at present. The senior school, enrolling the best qualified students from the urban area of Wuhan according to their high school entrance examination scores, will recruit about 500 students in 2010.

The new school is equipped with classrooms with multimedia system and schoolbag cabinet, laboratories for physics, chemistry and biology teaching with advanced facilities, self-teaching laboratories, astronomy laboratories, electrified education centers, computer teaching classrooms, library, electronic reading rooms, labor-tech classrooms, robot and electronic making rooms, handwriting and art rooms, music and dance rooms, together with the indoor table tennis court, the playground with 400 m synthetic rubber sports track and natural football field turf, as well as the standard basketball, volleyball and tennis courts. In the second phase, other facilities such as the gymnasium, student dormitories and canteens will be provided.

The new school has achieved remarkable teaching results in recent years. In 2009, it ranked top 10 among more than 20 key provincial-level demonstration senior high schools according to students' college entrance examination scores. Benefiting from the characteristic English teaching, many students have won awards in various domestic English competitions. It has been brought into the high quality minority language base schools by several universities and enjoys the same status as other national key secondary schools and foreign languages schools.
