Wen Weiqiu Championed in Individual Challenge of Imagine Cup

On July 8th, good news came from Poland Warsaw that the IT group leader, Wen Weiqiu, from HUST Unique Studio is honored the champion in IT individual challenge of Microsoft Imagine Cup. The Unique Studio has advanced to Imagine Cup worldwide finals for six consecutive years, and it is the second time for the team to embrace worldwide individual championship.


It is reported by foreign press that students around the world came to Warsaw, the capital of Poland, for the finals of the 8th Microsoft Imagine Cup. On behalf of the mainland China, Wen Weiqiu, from HUST Unique Studio, the Carbon Footprint team made up of Li Jiangchen, Peng Hao and Huang Wei, from HUST Electric and Electronic Science and Technology Innovation Center, and GNG team composed of Yu Ting, Wang Chao, Zhou Han and Lv Wen took part in the worldwide finals of IT Challenge, Embedded Development and Software Design respectively.


This contest has drawn attention of more than 325,000 students from about 100 countries and regions. And the final competition from July 3rd to 8th in Poland is the climax of this contest. It is said that only 400 excellent students were admitted to the finals for their innovative designs covering areas, like MultiTouch Education System for disabled students, mobile program examining hearing loss, etc.


Wen Weiqiu is from 0801 class of the Department of Electronics and Information Engineering. He started his journey in IT Challenge of the Microsoft Imagine Cup in Oct. 2009. Working hard for half a year and going through four rounds of knockout match and couples of various tests, he stood out among thousands of participants from different countries winning the champion in China, and advanced
to the worldwide top three finalists. Finally, he defeated others in the finals of Microsoft Imagine Cup in Poland.


The IT Individual Challenge is a test for participants apprehension of the network, database and servers, and their judgment about clients demands and specific situations. The Unique Studio of HUST has advanced to the global top three in the past four years. Before that, three students from HUST were listed in the global three. In 2007 Chen Zhifeng won the championship. In 2008, Liu Yan won the third and in 2009, Wu Chang was honored the second.
