NJU  Holds  Foundation  Laying  Ceremony  for  Chinese  Culture  Institute
On the morning of March 22 Nanjing University (NJU) held a ceremony on Xianlin Campus to celebrate the laying of the foundation stone of its Institute of Chinese Culture.
Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the founder of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order and the Buddha`s Light International Association (BLIA), and NJU President Chen Jun jointly unveiled the institute.
Master Hsing Yun in his speech expressed his strong sentiments towards traditional Chinese culture. He hoped that the Institute of Chinese Culture will explore the essence of traditional Chinese culture and meanwhile absorb cultural fruits of the new era, and help Chinese culture go global.
President Chen Jun expressed appreciation and thanks on behalf of Nanjing University to Master Hsing Yun and other donors both at home and abroad for their generous donations and great support to the institute.
After the foundation laying ceremony, another ceremony was held at Jingwen Student Center to name Master Hsing Yun honorary dean of the Institute of Chinese Culture and visiting professor of Nanjing University.

Master Hsing Yun was also invited to deliver a lecture to NJU faculty and students on traditional Chinese culture. Master Hsing Yun afterwards answered questions raised by the audience.
The Institute of Chinese Culture currently consists of five research centers the Centre for the Study of Humanistic Buddhism, the Center for the Study of Life Philosophy, the Center for the Study and Exchange of the Cultures in Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, the Center for the Study of Literature, and the Center for the Study of Ethnic and Frontier Culture. The institute plans to build itself into an influential platform for Chinese culture research, for the training of high-level researchers, for cultural cooperation and exchange among the mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and for the promotion of Chinese culture around the world within five to eight years.
