Mega Apparel Machinery Trade Show To Be Held In Singapore For The First Time

Singapore, 21 March 2007 – The Japan Sewing Machinery Manufacturers Association (JASMA) today announced that it will be bringing the International Apparel Machinery (JIAM) Trade Show to Singapore in May of 2008 at the Singapore Expo. This will be the first time the triennial show is held outside of Japan since its debut in 1984.

JIAM is one of the world’s top three major apparel machinery trade fairs globally and is widely acknowledged by the textile and apparel industry. JASMA’s decision to organize the 2008 event in Singapore - themed “The Gateway to Advance Technology from JIAM to the World” - is to answer to significant global changes in the textile and apparel industry.

“Asia alone accounts for more than 70% of the global production in the textile and apparel market. Countries such as China, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Vietnam, Cambodia, and other newly industrialized countries in South Asia and South-East Asia have increased their production tremendously in recent years,” said Mr Noboru Enomoto, Executive Director of JASMA.

As these countries focus on the growing apparel export to U.S.A and Europe, there will be an increase in the demand for value-added products that offer quality design and functionality. This will also invariably lead to an increase in demand for the latest apparel machinery.

JIAM 2008 Singapore will showcase the latest machinery and equipment from the world’s leading manufacturers and suppliers that demonstrate highly-innovative technologies for today’s ever-changing apparel and textile industry. New business models depicting future developments in the sewing, apparel and textile industries will also be presented at the international symposium to allow visitors and exhibitors a crystal ball view on the industry.

JIAM 2008 will also take the opportunity to showcase a theme zone on “Solutions for Sustainable Businesses” for the manufacturing and sales industries of sewing products. Put together by the organizing committee, the theme zone will present visitors three thematic solutions – Marketing Solution, Technical Solution and Environmental Solution.

“The Singapore Tourism Board is pleased that JASMA is holding JIAM 2008, a high-calibre sourcing platform and showcase for state-of-the-art machinery and equipment for the apparel and textile industry, in Singapore. This inaugural showing in Singapore marks JIAM’s first foray out of Japan. JASMA organizers selected Singapore as the venue for its strategic connectivity, dynamic business environment and cosmopolitan lifestyle with world-class offerings,” said Mr Shaun Goh, Director, Strategic Clusters II, Business Travel and MICE Group, Singapore Tourism Board.

JIAM 2008 is a recipient of the “BE in Singapore” or “Business Events in Singapore” incentive scheme. Launched by the Singapore Exhibition and Convention Bureau, a group of the Singapore Tourism Board, the scheme empowers the MICE industry to attract, bid and create new business events to be staged in Singapore and encourages existing business events anchored here to grow.

“JIAM 2008 is an example of strategic events that we want to attract and anchor in Singapore. We will continue to engage and encourage more strategic business events to be staged here, so as to build a strong pipeline of MICE events and position Singapore as an Exchange Capital of the World where people, technology and ideas converge to draw value from the lively exchange of ideas, business prospects and networking opportunities found only in Singapore,” added Mr Goh.

“With Singapore’s excellent connectivity and strategic location, JIAM will act as a bridge that links Asian exporters to the global apparel market,” elaborated Mr Enomoto.

An International Symposium will also be held in conjunction with the event to provide visitors theoretical explanations on various solutions and applications. The event will also feature five zones encompassing Accessories & Supplies; Environment (CSR); Logistic; Home Sewing Machine; and Household Goods. Additionally, a special presentation corner will feature the latest technology offered by the exhibitors of JIAM 2008.
