USA:Proper clothing cares for spring/summer

Write: Lunt [2011-05-20]

FabriCare Foundation is to lead the growth and future of the dry cleaning industry has announce that the spring season calls for lighter fabrics, brighter colors and more comfortable clothes. This seasonal change does not have to mean dressing down. More and more companies are bringing professionalism back into the workplace and putting restrictions on "casual Fridays."

Looking professional in casual settings, such as the golf course or a Friday afternoon meeting, can be easily accomplished with proper clothing care. Quality cleaning, pressing and maintenance will assure you look your best, and prolong the life of your clothes.

"Wherever you conduct business, it is always important to look your best," said Laurie Wilson, FabriCare Foundation Spokesperson and President and Founder of L. Wilson Group, LLC. "Consider sending your casual items cotton shirts, khakis and even jeans -- to the drycleaner for a professional cleaning and pressing. This helps ensure you look great at all times."

According to a recent study conducted by Cotton Inc, cotton khakis are expected to be the "it" fashion in menswear this year. In its online article, The Other Denim, Cotton Inc. says, "This years khakis are taking their lead from denim designers and will adorn interesting washes, new fits, and good hardware and detailing. Some makers are even expanding performance treatments and making the once-ubiquitous pleats available again.

"If you choose to wear khakis on casual days, be sure they are in excellent condition and well-pressed," Wilson said. "Wrinkles are out for crisp cottons. Linen is a great new summer staple, but of course, it is a wrinkle fabric. However, this year, we just want to make sure that linen is originally soft pressed, not creased or starched, and the natural qualities of the fabric lend to the organic look."

Andre also shared her insights about the trend of higher-end designers going more main-stream today and the importance of raising consumer awareness on proper care of these items. "An influx of off-price online shopping has given consumers instant access to more high-end designers than ever before. The problem is that many consumers are buying these types of clothes for the first time without the fabric care knowledge that often comes from purchasing them directly from upscale retailers and designers.

Tommy Bahamas silk shirts and cotton polo shirts, for instance, have become increasingly popular spring and summer staples. These shirts require proper cleaning, care and storage; the manufacturer recommends dry cleaning to preserve these $100-plus shirts.

The fiber content and construction of your clothing determine various characteristics of the material including stability, strength, stain absorbency and clean-ability," said Chris Allsbrooks, FabriCare Foundation Spokesperson and Textile Analyst for the International Fabricare Institute.
