OUT OF THE SADDLE
Stylish women around the world have recently been spotted in equestrian-inspired ensembles. Rustic materials like tweeds, cozy wools and shearling are key, giving the looks a refined bucolic feel. A fitted button-up shirt – often buttoned up to the collar – is essential, and jodhpurs, both slim, current styles or billowy, vintage-inspired versions, look right. Narrow jackets and vests, as well as chevron-striped A-line skirts give the look a feminine touch.

ON THE RUNWAY
The F/W 10 runways were filled with the sophisticated styles, which appeared on the runways at Ralph Lauren, Dior and Paul Smith, among others. Jean-Paul Gaultier also referenced the look in his final collection for Hermès this season, befitting the house's bridlemaking roots. Curve-hugging jackets created the requisite hourglass shape, and jodhpur-inspired pants looked chic and refined. Wool midi-dresses, tweed capes and knickers would work for when the Elegant Equestrian is out of the saddle, perha walking the grounds of her English country estate.
