On Jan. 12, Minister Han Changfu met with Luca Zaia, the visiting Italian Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies. The two sides exchanged views on agricultural cooperation, global food security, quality and safety of agricultural products, and IPR of agricultural knowledge. They reached a consensus that China and Italy had conducted satisfactory agricultural cooperation, and achieved marked progress in personnel training, scientific and technological exchanges, and agricultural trade. To enhance the mutual-beneficial agricultural cooperation would promote agricultural development in China and Italy and meet the bilateral interest.
Third, agricultural trade. The two sides agreed that agricultural trade was an integral part of bilateral agricultural cooperation. They encouraged enterprises in China and Italy to explore markets and take effective measures to support the trade.
Forth, agricultural processing and SMEs. The two sides agreed that the agricultural processing and cooperation among SMEs were promising in agricultural cooperation. Diversified methods should be explored in order to enhance exchanges and cooperation among enterprises. And Chinese and Italian agricultural enterprises should be encouraged to take economic and trade talks.
The two sides also spoke highly of the MOU on Agricultural Cooperation aimed at promoting the bilateral agricultural cooperation signed in 2006 and agreed to hold the second meeting of agricultural cooperation working panel at the proper time in 2010.
