The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 3 dated 4 March to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
The report says that, on 5 February, 21 birds were found to be infected at a farm with 20,000 birds at Fang-Yuan township in Chang-Hua, near to the previous outbreaks.
This incident was found through the epidemiological surveillance implemented within three-kilometre radius of the index farm, according to the report. Twenty-one samples were collected for serological and antigen tests from the farm in the vicinity of the index farm. Clinical health investigation of this latest farm shows that the health condition is normal and the mortality rate per day of this farm is 0.04 per cent. The positive results of HI test and virus isolation confirm this new outbreak. Control measures including movement restriction and disinfection have been implemented.
The presence of the H5N2 sub-type of the virus has been confirmed.
