The main producing areas are in Shandong and Liaoning provinces. Cherries were originally planted in Yantai, Shandong provinces, by western churchmen, sailors and colonies in the 1870 s. According to Ms Joyce He from Isnet, "there are about 57 thousand acres of red cherry in Yantai, the output is about 124.6 thousand tons occupying 60% of the total productions in China." Owing to the low temperature last year, the harvesting time has been delayed, and the price is lower than last year.
