From January 25 to 26, 2011, the completion ceremonies of 5,300t/d Atbara Cement Plant and 5,000t/d Berber Cement Plant, two largest cement plants in Africa undertaken by Hefei Cement Research & Design Institute (HCRDI) under China National Building Materials Group Corporation (CNBM), were held on the east and west banks of the Nile respectively.

Sudanese President Omer Hassan Ahmed Elbashir, representatives of owners of the two plants, Chinese Ambassador Li Chengwen, CNBM Vice President Ma Jianguo, HCRDI President Xu Ning, and HCRDI Vice President and Atbara Project Manager Zheng Xiang were present. The project s completion marked a significant breakthrough of HCRDI in its internationalized strategy in Africa.

Elbashir cordially met with Ma, Xu and Zheng, shaking hands with them, saying Hello! in fluent Chinese and thanking HCRDI for constructing the modern cement plants for Sudan. Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Elbashir enthusiastically visited the central laboratory and the automatic loading and train shipment system, speaking highly of the advanced degree and management level of the two plants.

Before the ceremony, Ma, Xu and Zheng talked to Sheikh Suleiman Al-Rajhi, chairman of the owner of the Atbara project and Mohamed A Al Ghurair, chairman of the owner of the Berber project. Both owners said HCRDI had constructed the largest and best cement plants and HCRDI was a first-class cement plant construction contractor, hoping to cement cooperation with CNBM. Also, Ghurair spoke highly of HCRDI s efforts, praising the Berber project had created many industry records in Africa: the 3.5km material conveyance system across the Nile and 4.5km conveyance belt, grinding cement system, world first-class automatic cement loading system, as well as Sudan s first cement train shipment system.
