DILI, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Timor-Leste's Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao said that the United Nations Police would soon hand over security responsibility to the Timorese National Police as its mandate will end in March 2011, Suara Timor Lorosa'e reported on Monday.

"The United Nations Police will hand over security responsibility to the Dili District Police and General Commander of National Police of Timor-Leste. Therefore, the UN Police will not continue their policing job and reforming our PNTL. They will just provide advisors up to the general election in 2012, and then they will leave the country," PM Gusmao said.

He also said the UN Security Council has decided to end the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) in 2012.

"I went to the New York to see the United Nations Security Council to talk to them about extending the mandate of UNMIT in Timor-Leste and how the UN can monitor our election and now UNMIT will leave the country in 2012," PM Gusmao said.
