BEIJING, April 20 (Xinhua) -- China and Indonesia vowed here on Wednesday to promote cooperation between their parliaments to a higher level.

The common aspiration was uttered during a meeting between Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo and visiting Indonesian Speaker of the House of Representative Marzuki Alie.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, spoke highly of current friendly and cooperative relationship between the two parliaments, calling on the two sides to consolidate their exchanges and cooperation to promote stronger ties between the two nations.

Wu also praised the recent growth of the bilateral relations. The two nations have seen remarkable growth in trade cooperation which has brought concrete benefits to the two peoples, Wu noted.

Agreeing with Wu's call for closer cooperation, Marzuki said Indonesia highly values its ties with China including those between the two parliaments, and proposed that the two sides also strengthen the cooperation in infrastructure and building materials as well mechanical and electrical products.

At the invitation of Wu, Marzuki led an Indonesian congressional delegation arriving in China on Sunday.
