CHONGQING, March 21 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese official has vowed to "comprehensively" push forward the country's anti-graft work and improve people's well-being.
He Guoqiang, head of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, said a combination of means including education, system building, supervision, reform, and penalty would be used to check corruption.
The country still faced the arduous and complex task of fighting corruption although notable progress has been made in this regard, said He, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
The official made the remarks during a five-day inspection tour that ended Monday in southwest China's Chongqing, a metropolis of more than 30 million people.
During the tour, he urged officials to do more field research in grass-roots communities and villages, embrace transparency in village affairs, and tackle people's complaints with regard to officials' work styles and land disputes, among others.
He also encouraged Chongqing, an old industrial base, to adjust its economic structure and seek coordination between economic growth and environmental protection.
The official also called for more support to areas inhabited by ethnic minorities and poverty-stricken regions and urged enterprises to help lift the income of rural residents.
