CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing will allocate 2.3 billion yuan to "Greening the Yangtze River" and afforestation of 1.3 million mu in 2011, including new afforestation of one million mu and reconstruction of low-efficiency forest of 300,000 mu. By April 15, 2011, Chongqing has accomplished afforestation of 510,000 mu, occupying 39.3% of the task.
Greening the Yangtze River Project covers 23 districts and counties and New North Zone. The construction objective is 3.8 million mu, consisting of new afforestation of 3 million mu, reconstruction and replanting of low-efficiency forest of 800,000 mu. By then, the forest coverage rate in the core ecological area of the Three Gorges Reservoir area will be increased to 65% and the ecological environment of the area will be improved comprehensively.
