Despite hints of spring in the city with Magnolia flowers starting to bloom, another cold snap expected next week will hold off the oncoming season a little longer, local weather authorities said Thursday.

The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said Thursday that the cold front from North China is forecast to bring temperatures down to a low of 3 C on Monday.

But the good news is that local residents will be able to enjoy warm temperatures over the weekend before the cold spell arrives. The bright, sunny weather will bring temperature highs of 16 C on Saturday and 15 C on Sunday, the bureau said.

The temperature high of 14 C Thursday marked the city's second consecutive day with average temperatures above 10 C. The city officially enters spring when its average temperatures are above 10 C for five consecutive days.

Spring arrived late last year on March 19 - last winter was the longest one the city saw in the past 15 years.
