Less fees for cab drivers

Local transport authorities announced Thursday that it will lower the minimum monthly payment taxi drivers are required to pay their employer from 8,500 yuan ($1,304) to 8,200 yuan ($1,258).
The move is expected to ease financial pressures for taxi drivers, who are burdened by the soaring price of oil.
The reduced expense is expected to enable drivers to pocket an additional 175 yuan ($27) each month.
Authorities also said they are still considering increasing taxi fares, after saying in February that if they do hike prices, a public consultation would be held first.
