The Forestry Departments of Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu Provinces as well as relevant nature reserves reported the situation on giant panda protection and management in 2009 and discussed many subjects, such as how to strengthen the protection of wild giant pandas, the development of a giant panda brand, and breeding of captive giant pandas. Meanwhile, the State Forestry Administration announced that the 4th National Giant Panda survey is about to begin to ascertain the current status of wild pandas and their habitat. It will also examine the outcomes of a 10-year ecological construction and wildlife conservation program. The meeting also discussed the plans for giant panda conservation for 2010.
