One of the originators of Earth Hour, Mr. Andy Ridley, said, Earth Hour shows people s determination for healthy healthier and greener world. Earth Hour prompts cities, communities, companies, and individuals to take friendly actions toward solving the climate change problem. We hope to encourage those people who are not yet a part of the Earth Hour activity to join in this historic moment in the world. Ninety-two countries and regions have already agreed to participate in the event.
One of environmental guardians is also one of Mei Lan s legion of fans, 70 year old retired doctor Ye Zhiping. His grandson is studying in America. After panda Tai Shan and Mei Lan returned, his grandson missed them so much that he asked his grandfather to watch over them for him. Dr. Ye said, If I tell my grandson that I am a part of the activity to which Mei Lan is the ambassador of, he will be very happy.
Mr. Lin Lin, vice director of project implementation of WWF, said panda Mei Lan will be listed as the honorary ambassador of Earth Hour, alongside respected archbishop Tutu, Coldplay, and Australian actress Kate Blanchet.
