Thirty-Five Newly Discovered Cultural Relic Sites during the Third Cultural Relics Survey of Dr. Sun Yat-sen s Mausoleum

(Reported by Zha Xun, a reporter of the news station). In April 2007, the State Council promulgated A Circular on Conducting the Third National Cultural Relics Survey, deciding to carry out the third National Cultural Relics Survey in an all-round way from 2007 to 2011. To implement the Circular by the State Council, the Administration of Dr. Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum paid great attention and timely arranged for personnel to attend the survey training. It also organized a cultural relics survey team in joint cooperation with Xuanwu Department of Culture of Nanjing in accordance with the arrangement of the provincial and municipal departments of cultural relics to carry out all-round surveys of the areas belonging to the scenic area of Dr. Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum. It specially arranged personnel to conduct field surveys and to carry out all-round surveys of the immovable cultural relics under and above the ground in the scenic area of Dr. Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum. Through field investigation of more then two years, the Department of Cultural Relics of the Administration surveyed and registered a total of 78 cultural relics, including 43 re-investigated cultural relics and 35 newly discovered cultural relics. The newly discovered cultural relics included 7 ancient sites, 1 ancient tomb, 2 ancient buildings, 1 cave temple and inscribed stone, 14 important historical sites and typical buildings of modern and contemporary periods, 8 military security barriers of modern periods and 2 tombs of famous figures during the era of the Republic of China. The discovery of these cultural relics will not only play a significant role in developing the scenic area and enhancing its cultural connotations but also provide a scientific basis for its cultural relic management and planning.
