On the morning of May 6, fishery farmers, with gratitude, received free fish fry from Guangxi Bureau of Aquatic and Animal Husbandry.

Since the draught from last August, Guangxi s aquaculture has been affected to a great extend.

Fish breeding bases in Nanning and Baise had to stop fish breeding. In the first quarter of the year,

the production of fish fry decreased dramatically. Now is the critical time for aquatic farming.

In order to solve the problem of short supply of tilapia fry, Guangxi Bureau of Aquatic and

Animal Husbandry held a ceremony to provide 4 million free fish fry to fishery farmers in Nanning.

Present at the ceremony were Chen Zhangliang, Deputy Governor of Guangxi, and Wen Shourong,

Deputy Mayor of Nanning.

Tilapia is the main aquatic product in Guangxi. In the year of 2009 Guangxi s yield of tilapias

reached 19.2 tons, ranking the third in production in the country. Its export volume of tilapia

was 112 million USD, ranking the first in terms of its increase. Nanning, Beihai and other

cities in Guangxi are the major producers of tilapias. Guangxi Bureau of Aquatic and Animal

Husbandry will provide over 12 million free fish fry this year to keep the momentum of

aquaculture development and increase the income of draught-hit farmers.
