Write: Benjy [2011-05-20]
On June 22nd, 2010, a launch ceremony for the "Haikou Taxi Drivers Etiquette English Training Course" was held at the Haikou Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office (FAO).Officials from the FAO, Haikou Transportation Bureau and Hainan Omeca Int'l Exchange College attended the ceremony.
Under the banner of Hainan International Tourism Island, learning English has become an urgent mission for the islanders, especially for locals who work in a service industry which welcomes thousands of overseas visitors every year.As a taxi driver, to be able to communicate with foreign customers in basic English will not only improve the quality of their service, but also act as a calling card for the city.As a pioneer in the foreign affairs of Haikou, the FAO foresaw the need for nearly 6,000 Haikou taxi drivers to learn English. Therefore, after consulting with the Haikou Transportation Bureau, the two offices came up with the idea of opening an English training
course for the drivers. The idea received an immediate and positive response from the Hainan Omeca Int'l Exchange College, a leading English training center in Hainan. The exchange center volunteered to be the course provider and provide a free training course for the drivers.
A hotline has been opened for applications by Omeca.Taxi drivers can call 66166011 to enroll in the course.
