According to the Haikou Evening News, the Hainan International Tourism Island Development Research Institute (HITIDRI) was set up on May 10th at the Tourism College of Hainan University through the joint efforts of Hainan University and Nankai University in Tianjin.
The HITIDRI will make full use of human resources and professional knowledge from these two universities to construct a government think tank and talent base.
It is reported that the HITIDRI will center on the important conceptual and practical problems arising from Hainan's new positioning as an international tourist destination and, investigate topics that cover policy research, system construction and innovation, law and regulation, industry planning and development, and social affairs.
Areas such as tourism industry innovation, ecological and culturally sympathetic construction, international economic cooperation, comprehensive development of oceanic resources, modern tropical agriculture development and international economic zone development experiences will also be involved.
Mr. Hou Zixin, advisor to Hainan University and former president of Nankai University is the president of the new research institute.
