Recently, Mr. Maurizio Buriand and Mr. Charalampos Fasoulas, two experts from UNESCO arrived in Haikou to spend two days inspecting the Haikou Leiqiong Global Geopark.
Haikou city government officials held a meeting with the experts and said that in recent years, both the Central and Local Governments increased their investment in protection and management leading to great changes in the geopark.
A rule of the World Geopark Network, states that every four years, the experts will inspect its members regarding to their work towards the protection and development of their geoparks. The Leiqiong Global Geopark was made a member of the geopark network at the UNESCO meeting held in Ireland in 2006.
