The Sanxingdui Museum and the Jinsha Museum, both from Sichuan, were honored as National Archaeological Sites. The awarding ceremony was held in Chengdu, Sichuan on Dec. 18th, 2010. Another 10 sites such as the Yuanming Garden, Zhoukoudian archaeological site, and the Yin archaeological site etc. were also awarded during the ceremony.
Sanxingdui Museum is built on the state protected Sanxingdui Site, which is one of the most important archaeological sites in China. The historial site gives great insight into the ancient Shu Kingdom. It is also one of the most important resources to understand the formation of Sichuan culture.
